First Edition with these Illustrations. Quarto, 
original royal blue cloth titled and ruled in 
gilt on spine and front cover, pictorial paper 
label with decorative border on front panel. 
Pictorial endpapers, top edges gilt. Frontispiece 
with tissue guard, plus eleven additional 
tipped-in colour plates; complete. Additionally, 
there are fifty black & white illustrations 
within the text. A very good clean copy, bright and attractive.

¶ Millicent Sowerby (1878-1967) was a very 
accomplished illustrator of Children's books 
during the Golden Age of Book Illustration. He 
work for GRIMM'S FAIRY TALES is superb. A very 
nice copy of a very scarce book which tends to 
survive badly - incomplete copies being the norm, 
presumably as the plates would make fine 
furnishing for a children's nursery.            $450.00 US
