John Trusler (ed.): The Habitable World Described, or The Present State of the People in all Parts of the Globe, from North to South; Shewing the Situation, Extent, Climate, Productions, Animals, &c. of the different Kingdoms and States; including all the new Discoveries: Together with the Genius, Manners, Customs, Trade, Religion, Forms of Government, &c. of the Inhabitants… With a great Variety of Maps and Copper-Plates, engraved in a capital Stile, the Subjects of which are mostly new, and such as have never yet been given in any English work… Vol. IX [and] X. London: Printed for the Author, at the Library-Press, 1791. First edition. Two volumes in one; thick 8vo in half calf and marbled boards, gilt-lettered morocco spine labels; 352, 337 pp.; with an extra engraved title-page (from vol. II, dated 1788), woodcut tailpieces, 13 copper-engraved plates and 10 folding maps.

Two volumes (bound in one) of Trusler's monumental collection of travels and exploration which was published over the course of ten years and eventually ran to twenty volumes. These volumes cover GERMANY & AUSTRIA (including Moravia, Saxony, the Upper Rhine, Lower Rhine, Suabia, Westphalia, Burgundy); THE LOW COUNTRIES or UNITED NETHERLANDS; and part of HUNGARY (Transylvania, Illyricum). With engraved FOLDING MAPS of Austria; Vienna; Lower Saxony; Upper Saxony; the Countries round the Baltic; the Upper and Lower Rhine; Bavaria; Swabia; Westphalia; and Burgundy or the Austrian Possessions in the Netherlands.

Modest rubbing and wear to the boards, some scuffing and wear to the spine and joints; light offsetting to the folding maps and toning to the plates, a few scattered light spots to the text leaves; otherwise the contents are unusually clean and fresh, and firmly bound. (Lacking some plates & maps listed in the notice to the binder.)
