“Nouveau Manuel Complet du Porcelainier, Faiencier, Potier de Terre,
comprenant la fabrication des gres cerames, des pipes, des boutons en
porcelaine, des diverses porcelains tenders...”

By D. Magnier.
Published in Paris by Librairie Encyclopedique de Roret in 1864.

A technical manual to the manufacture of pottery and porcelain in
mid-19th century France, designed to replace Boyer's 1827 handbook. The
engraved plates illustrate a variety of pottery and porcelain forms as
well as types of kilns, kiln packing diagrams, throwing wheels, grinding
apparatus, and other machinery.

Nicolas-Edme Roret [1797-1860] was the editor of a groundbreaking
popular series of Victorian-era technical "encyclopedias". Roret came
from a family of booksellers and printers, and in 1822 he began
publishing scientific works, and then began his "Librairie
Encyclopedique de Roret", a series of technical manuals on the history
and practice of science, manners, arts and crafts, and trades. The
"Manuals Roret", written by professionals and experts in their subjects,
eventually totaled some 300 titles, touching on subjects ranging from
astronomer to National Guardsman to painter and butcher. The manuals
were a huge success, and many titles went through several editions.

2 volumes. Hardcover. 3.75"x6", 283 + 212 pages, plus 10 folding
engraved plates; bound in period marbled boards with plain black leather
spines and gilt titles.

The covers have some light wear and soil (please see the photos, above
and below). The book interiors have some minor soil, and some spotting
and foxing, but otherwise are clean and nice, with tight bindings.
