EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED: an early owner has expanded this one-volume work to two volumes and augmented the text with ca. 105 engravings and etchings, mostly portraits, a few tinted or colored, each bound in with a tissue guard. Bindings with light scuffing to the spines, wear and minor chipping to the spine ends and corners, occasional modest toning to the contents, else clean and sharp, firmly bound. A handsome and richly illustrated collection of literary observations by arguably the finest and most influential essayist of his time.
