Printed under the Authority of the Managers from the Prompt Book: Selected by Mrs. Inchbald. In Seven Volumes. London: Printed for Longman, Hurst, Rees, and Orme, 1809. FIRST EDITION. Seven volumes, 12mo (15.5 cm), in early/period diced calf, spines decorated and lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers; engraved portrait frontispiece to each volume.

John Burgoyne, Charles and Thomas Dibdin, Robert Jephson, Arthur Murphy, George Colman, Hannah  Cowley, Frances Brooke and many others, including Elizabeth Inchbald herself, a novelist, actress, and successful playwright with some eighteen plays to her credit. A precursor of Mrs. Inchbald's popular and influential collection, The British Theatre, (1816). Bindings with modest rubbing, staining and wear to the extremities, joints professionally repaired; light spotting to several frontispieces with offsetting to the title-pages; occasional light spotting and toning elsewhere, otherwise quite clean and sound, firmly bound. A complete, solid and handsome set.
