New Jersey. COMPLIMENTARY DINNER TO THE MEMBERS OF THE NEW JERSEY
LEGISLATURE: Thursday, February 7, 1867 [menu printed on silk]. Taylor's
Hotel, N.D. & J. Taylor, Proprietors. Jersey City: John H. Lyon, Printer,
1867. Original document. Menu printed in red ink, with decorative borders
and pictorial New Jersey seal in blue. Text continues: "C.H. Winfield, P.
Ludlam / Senate Com. H.F. Clark, E.A. Stansbury, O.D. Falkenbury / Assembly
Com. MENU: Oysters. Soups: Green Turtle, Ox Tail. Fish: Boiled Salmon,
Boiled Bass. Releves: Mutton Boiled, Capon Boiled, Ham and Tongue Boiled,
Beef--a la mode, Boned Turkey. Roast: Beef, Veal, Mutton, Turkey, Chicken,
Duck. Entrees: Sweet Bread--a la Montpensier. Quail, Stuffed and Larded--a
la Chevalier. Fillet of Beef--a la Taylor, Partridge Roasted--a l'Ancienne.
Game: Saddle Venison, Canvasback Duck, Squab. Salads: Chicken, Lobster.
Fruits. Pastry. Coffee."  The silk is slightly age-darkened, although quite
readable and well-preserved.  8.5" x 4.5" Very Good.
Quite an early menu, notably printed on silk. Unrecorded by OCLC and
WorldCat. "Few menus printed on silk survive from the 19th and 20th
centuries, but they were once common souvenirs in more expensive hotels and
