This collection comprises 12 letters & a post card written by three
different soldiers while in Service in France with the American
Expeditionary Forces. Some are on AEF Stationary, most retain the
original mailed envelopes with the appropriate "Soldier's Mail"
notations and censor stamps as well. All are to Ghisele Godard, a women
that they have met in Paris perhaps at the Red Cross.
The collection; $195.00 Postpaid
Sgt. Michael Cerverizzo;
September 3, 1918. Sgt. Michael Cerverizzo; Two pages & a P.S. on a
third page on YMCA / AEF Stationary to Ghisele Godard. He has not
written due to being in action, "many narrow escapes from enemy fire and
the show is still in progress". There is too much to detail about "the
Huns" but he will tell all at their next meeting.
Darlington A. Brown, Co. A, 107th Machine Gun Battalion, AEF;
July 15, 1918. Darlington A. Brown; "Chatallion Sur Seine". Three pages
on plain Stationary to Ghisele Godard. The town is very nice. His duties
are connected in some fashion to a school. He hopes to return to Paris
to spend some time, perhaps after the war.
July 22, 1918. Darlington A. Brown; One page on Red Cross Stationary to
Ghisele Godard. The Sergeant has mobilized him. He has to leave now, but

on plain Stationary to Ghisele Godard. He has rejoined the Battalion. He
is writing from the garden of an abandoned chateau. The people have had
to leave everything and flee. The surrounding area is quite shot up. He
reminisces about his time with her in Paris, there is a hint of some
kind of a post-war promise.
The previous three letters were sent in one envelope posted August 2, 1918
October 15, 1918. Darlington A. Brown; Eight pages on YMCA / AEF
Stationary to Ghisele Godard. He has received her letter and has been
fighting quite a bit. He mentions Sgt Ceorverizzo, asking why he was in
the hospital, so the Mademoiselle must be mentioning all her
correspondents to each other. It appears these soldiers were in a school
together. He mentions her Mother, his "French Mother" and their future.
He is tired of war.
February 17, 1919. Darlington A. Brown; "Baringey au Plain ? France".
Three pages on plain Stationary to Ghisele Godard. He is laying out his

he will be doing.

trains. He has sent her 20 francs.
