OFFERING: AN ANTIQUE CEDAR-LINED BOX MADE FROM TWO EARLY 19TH CENTURY
FRENCH BOOKS.
France, circa 1836. An Antique Cedarwood lined box made from two
early 19th Century books bound in full leather. Octavo size, the
books have been affixed together at an angle, hollowed out and lined
with cedar; they don't sit straight on the shelf but rather are
designed to sit flat upon a table, likely used as a cigarette box. An
unusual design, as most boxes like this which we have encountered are
designed to sit upright upon a bookshelf. The two volumes used are
Vol 1 of the OEVRES DE SAINTE THERESE, Limoges, 1836; the title page
of the second volume cannot be seen but the spine title is COURS DE
LITTERAT. Light general wear to the volumes, the front hinge of the
top book is cracking but holding well on the cords; completely
intact. A scarce and unusual usage of two odd-volumes of early 19th
Century French Literature. $175.00 US
