François-Rene, vicomte de Chateaubriand: Itineraire de Paris à Jerusalem et de Jerusalem a Paris. Paris: Lefèvre, 1829. Two volumes, 8vo, in full crimson calf by Dumergue (signed in gilt at the foot of vol. I) with covers, spines and turn-ins tooled in gilt, all page edges gilt, marbled endpapers; [4], cxl, 350 pp.; [4], 411 pp.; with the half-titles; each volume with a steel-engraved frontispiece and one additional plate.

Chateaubriand's musings, observations, and notes made while traveling in Greece, Asia Minor, Palestine, Egypt and Spain, first published in 1811. Modest wear to the corners, spines somewhat sunned/darkened; intermittent foxing to the contents throughout, as often, from light to occasionally quite heavy. Front free-endpaper with an early gift inscription: "Souvenir de Gaston Bonjour A son ami et cousin Adrien de Cellier, 1838." Front paste-down with the engraved armorial bookplate of Ross Ambler Curran, early twentieth-century West Coast society figure and bibliophile.
