Le Journal des Scavans, de l'An MDCLXVII [1679]. Tome Septieme. Amsterdam: chez Pierre le Grand, MDCLXXX [1680]. Thick 12mo (12.5 cm) in full early vellum; 579 [i.e., 379] pp.; with seven plates, one of which is folding, and in-text woodcut illustrations and diagrams.

The Amsterdam printing of the second volume of the Journal des Scavans [Savants], the earliest scientific and academic journal published in Europe, its first issue, appearing in January, 1665, beating by two months the debut of the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. Some dust-soiling and mellow browning to the binding, boards a little bowed and bumped at the corners; dust-soiling/darkening to the edges of the text block, some cockling and toning to the leaves; else clean and sound, securely bound.
