First edition. 4to. 181,(3)pp. Illustrated with an armorial engraving on title page, 4 engraved vignettes, and 11 copper engraved folding plates. Cont. full mottled calf, gilt spine, hinges a bit rubbed. Short splits at top of hinges. A few old rubber stamps from the library of the College of Jesus in Poitiers, France. Except for the slight discoloration of a few leaves, a very nice copy.                $6,500.00 (trade discount allowed)

The first complete treatise on differential calculus, and as such, a mathematical milestone. The Marquis de l'Hospital (1661-1704) was among the earliest pupils of John Bernoulli, and put together this treatise explaining his teacher's principles and methods.
