Arbuckle, Mabel. TWO (2) NOTEBOOK-SCRAPBOOKS: Written & assembled by this
young art teacher from Columbus, Ohio, while a summer student at New York
University, 1916. . Original manuscripts. Book #1. Lectures on
Demonstration Drawing...by Dr. Haney. Contains Mabel's pencil and
color-pencil drawings, and her lecture notes on specific, classical
sculptures & paintings, mounting exhibitions, &c. Tipped in: two-page
course description; 14-page "directory" of students in the class; photos of
the artwork discussed; class photo; seven photographs of art on the wall;
human-anatomy drawings by Mabel; &c. // Book #2. Lectures on the Practice
of Design...by Dr. Haney. Contains Arbuckle's handwritten notes with small
sketches, some in color, re patterns & motifs, various media, use of color,
&c. Pasted in are a 4-page printed course synopsis, and a 4-page pamphlet
on "The Three Arts Club" and its amenities at 340 W. 85th St. NYC. Laid in
are some pertinent tear-sheets and handwritten notes. At the back are notes
from a Mrs. Krapp's lecture on Interior Decoration at the New York School
of Fine & Applied Art; handwritten notes on furniture styles, interior
design problems & solutions, photogravure & platinotype printing,
architectural styles, &c. Two volumes, bound uniformly in cloth-backed
marbled boards with cover labels. 10" x 7.75" Very Good. Cloth-backed
boards.
Mabel Arbuckle of Columbus, Ohio was at the time of this summer work in
NYC, teaching art at South Bend High School in Indiana. $100.00
