Thomas Jefferys: North America. [London: ca. 1760.] Copper-engraved map, hand-colored in outline, on laid paper; 243 x 195 mm (9 5/8 x 7 5/8 in). Includes the British Colonies, the Great Lakes, the coast of California, and decidedly odd depictions of the Mississippi River, the "North River" (Rio Grande?) and Florida. The northwest part of America is designated "Parts Unknown." Probably from Thomas Salmon's The New Geographical and Historical Grammar (1760).

An original engraved map, not a modern reproduction. Near Fine or better: a touch of faint offsetting and creasing, but very clean, crisp and bright, the (presumably later) hand-coloring fresh and expertly executed. A handsome map of North America at the time of the French and Indian War.
