folding map in Volume I, opens to 16.5" x 18.5" including margins: "Map of
the Territory Inhabited by the Ancient Saxons, North of the Elbe." Bound in
half morocco & marbled boards, rebacked, gilt spine rules and red leather
labels. 10.5" x 8.5" Very Good. Morocco & Boards.
The rear pastedowns of both volumes are signed: "Mr. George Finch, Chief
Warder, W.D., Aldershot, 27th July 1869." Under that is written: "Given to
His Son Emmanuel when on His Death Bed." Pasted to the front endpapers of
both volumes are four (4) two-page tracts by George Finch, Chief Warder,
W.D., printed at Aldershot by J.D. Muggeridge, 1870. $400.00
