Baerle, Caspar von (or, Barleus, Gaspar). BRASILIANISCHE GESCHICHTE... Johann Moritz, Furstens zu Nassau.. Erstlich in Latein... Beschrieben und Jetzo in Teutsche Sprach Ubergesetzt. Cleve (i.e., Kleve): T. Silberling. 1659. 8vo. (20),848,(20)pp. Index. With the added engraved title, a portrait of the translator Johann Moritz, Prince of Nassau, an engraved plate (coat-of-arms), and 7 folded plates in the text (3 are maps). See below for a discussion. Very nicely rebound in modern, period style full calf, blind tooled spine with morocco label. Some old water soiling at outer lower margin.    $3,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
Very scarce German translation (from the Latin) of RERUM OCTENNIUM IN BRASILIA, first printed in Amsterdam in 1647. Also includes material on Chile. The three maps are "Brasilia," "Mauritiopolis," and "America und Africa." This copy collates exactly as the full record #1 found in OCLC, with 4 plates and 3 maps. There is a note in this record that a copy described by Henry Stevens in his HISTORICAL NUGGETS has an additional plate. I believe this is the copy now at JCB, III pp. 4-5. Sabin also states 8 plates and maps (taken from the Steven's record?).   The only other copy currently for sale on-line has 7 plates, and 7 plates is the number recorded by the Newberry Library, Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, the American Museum of Natural History, etc., etc.  Certainly the great majority of copies only have 7 plates. See Sabin 3411. European Americana III 659/10. Borba de Moraes (2), p. 79 (listing only 4 maps & plates!).
