collaboration de Françoise Garnaud; Introduction de Jean Guichard-Meili. 
Paris: [C. Duthuit, L'Imprimerie Union a Paris], 1988. (2000 copies
printed) This is number 113 of 125 copies reserved for family and
contributors containing laid-in original etching with stamped artist's
initials; a study, not intended for publication, sketched by Matisse in
1932 for his first illustrated book Poésies de Stéphane Mallarmé, and
printed for the first time in 1987 by the Atelier Georges Leblanc on Japon
impérial. Cover tissue present.

Large quarto (12 3/4" x 10 1/4"). xxxvii, 509 pages + Justification du
Tirage. English translation by Timothy Bent begins on pg. 407. Indexes &
Bibliographical references. Also includes Matisse's interesting account
"Comment j'ai fait mes livres" (1946) after introduction. Numerous b&w and
color illustrations from etchings, linoleum cuts & lithographs. Near Fine
chartreuse cloth hardcover with black illustration and titles (tiny bit of
corner and spine edge bumping; faint small spot on front; contents ever so
slightly sunned, or yellowed, along edge) with Near Fine dust jacket
(shows same minor bumping as book; also faintly sunned at edges) The
etching--a study of female nudes--is fine but for very narrow indication
of faint folding along top edge where it must have been caught in the
inner hinge of the book. Same is true of cover tissue. Very clean, crisp
and bright and without previous owner notations.
