Jane Austen; Vera Willoughby, illus.: Pride and Prejudice. London: Peter Davies, 1929. First edition thus. Tall 8vo (22 cm) bound in 1/2 navy blue morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, gilt-tooled rules, lettering and spine decorations; [6], 351 pp.

Handsome presentation of Austen's flagship novel, with twelve plates by Willoughby (1870-1939), who is perhaps best remembered for the stylish series of posters she designed for the London Underground from 1928-1935. Binding with modest traces of rubbing, sunning to the spine, light stain to the bottom of the rear board; mild toning and light foxing to the fore-edge of the text block, otherwise very clean and sound, firmly bound. A nice copy of a desirable edition.
