November 1869. A 3-1/2-page AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED on an 8-3/4" x 7"
sheet of paper, folded once, to "My Dear Mrs. Lawrence" on his stay in
Florence. In part: "Friday is certainly an unlucky day; for on Friday I
called at your hotel and was so unfortunate as not to find you.... I saw
more than once the sunny Torrigiani gardens, and the empty house. I saw
also many friends of yours, who regretted your absence, and spoke of you
as you would like to be spoken of; and finally I shook hands with you in
Powers' Studio, which was a kind of welcome and farewell to Florence."
SIGNED "Henry W. Longfellow." Normal folds from mailing. Near Fine.
