Iowa, Dickinson County. HANDWRITTEN CONFIRMATION CLASS BOOK IN NORWEGIAN,
1899-1907. Dickinson County, Iowa, 1899. Original manuscript. 11pp
manuscript in a Webster Composition notebook. Entries in ink and pencil.
Title-page states: "Konfirmand Klassbog / Union State Line Meninghed /
Dickinson Co., Iowa." Bound in cloth-backed stiff wrappers; half-inch piece
gone from corner of back cover. 10.25" x 7.75"
This is a record in the Norwegian language of students in the Confirmation
classes of the Union State Line Congregation. Included are each child's
name ("Barrets Navn," the names of his or her parents ("foraldrene"), the
place and date of birth, and the number of classes attended. Virtually all
students have recognizably Scandinavian names. Nine are listed for the
first year (1899), eight for 1900, twelve for 1902, eleven for 1903, 12 for
1904-05, and thirteen for 1906-07. Attendance records show that one child,
Henry Monson, died during the period. [We find a Union State Line Cemetery
at Estherville (Dickinson County), Iowa.     $40.00
