Have you ever been curious about the art work traded by the Sythians
across the Silk Road about three thousand years ago? 

Toshio Egawa, former Managing Director of the Konica Corporation, was a
private collector of Sythian aggrafes and bronze animals. The book
offered here is a fist edition, limited to 700 copies, of an exhibition
catalog of the ancient Chinese trade ornaments that were traded to the
ancient Greeks as early as 3,000 years ago. Aggrafes were ornamental
metal fittings used as belt-hooks and for other hooking purposes. They
were made mainly of bronze with animal designs and often embellished
with gold, silver, jade, turquoise, and other precious stones. Near mint

4to. 10 7/8 x 8 5/16 inches. [ii], 138, [2] pp. Text in English and
Japanese, color photographic illustrations throughout; text clean,
unmarked. Quarter brown morocco, blind-stamped dark yellow cloth, spine
titled in gilt, handsome silver end-papers, thin rice paper dust-jacket;
binding square and tight, jacket with light shelf wear and a few tears.
Comes in the original gilt-stamped, blue-cloth covered slip-case, which
is in turn preserved in the original cardboard mailing case which has a
printed label on one side. INSCRIBED by the author, "With my respect, T.
Egawa." Also laid is a typed letter, signed, dated December 1995 from
Muir Dawson acknowledging receipt of this volume. Fine.

exhibition catalog of the private collection of Toshio Egawa, who was
Managing Director of the Konica Corporation. The collection focuses on
Ancient Chinese ornaments which were traded by the Sythians with the
ancient Greeks as early as 3,000 years ago. Illustrated throughout with
color photographs of these spectacular ancient art works. A gift of
Toskio Egawa to Muir Dawson, and the book includes signed correspondence
