Little People . GROUP OF SEVEN (7) ORIGINAL, 19th-CENTURY PHOTOGRAPHS OF
LITTLE PEOPLE (aka "midgets"): Six cartes-de-visite and one cabinet card.
v.p.: v.p., circa 1860s-1870s. Original editions. Includes: (1) Brady cdv
photograph of the Fairy Wedding of Mr. & Mrs. Tom Thumb; verso printed From
Photographic Negative by Brady, published by E. & H.T. Anthony, with the
usual facsimile inscriptions "Compliments of Charles Stratton / Compliments
of Lavinia Warren Stratton." (2) CDV of Mr. & Mrs. Tom Thumb and "their
baby" [the Thumbs were childless and from time to time borrowed babies to
pose with them]. (3) CDV of a female little-person in circus costume, with
whip [probably a bareback rider], sitting on a stool with long tassels,
identified on the back as Willie Howard, photo by Turner of Boston. (4) CDV
of a middle-aged, little woman in floor-duster dress, left arm resting on a
pedestal which holds a large book; verso imprint of E. & H.T. Anthony, New
York. (5) CDV of Commodore Foote & Eliza, his sister, both in formal attire
of their day; printed on verso is a five-stanza poem, "Commodore Foote's
Dream," which relates his thoughts on his size [Foote was the stage name of
Charles W. Nestel (1848-1937).] (6) CDV of unidentified little woman in
elaborate floor-duster dress, right hand resting on a carved Victorian
chair; imprint on the verso of R.A. Lord, 164 Chatham Street, New-York. (7)
Cabinet photo of a trio of older little- people, two men and a woman, in
formal attire. On the mount is the photographer's blind stamp: Harmon,
Sanford and Springvale, ME. A little light soiling, but nice overall. Very
Good.   $200.00
