A Curious & Interesting 19th Century Scrapbook Where the Predominant
Theme Seems To Be Death. The scrapbook is a converted ledger measuring
13.5" x 8.25"; On the front pastedown is a large (4.5" x 3.75")
Bookseller's tag; "Abram E. Cutter Bookseller, Stationer, Blank Book
Manufacturer, No. 62 Main Street, Charlestown". The ledger dates from
the 1860s; There is no identifying marks of ownership or any hint as to
the identity of the compiler. Its pages are filled with very neatly
arranged newspaper clippings in three straight columns per page. The
clippings tend to be extensive, a few are illustrated. There are tipped
in pieces of ephemera as well that will be listed at the end of this
description. There are approx 250 utilized pages; The Clipping
Collection seems to be mostly reportage of significant deaths. It begins
with Governor F. T. Greenhalge of Connecticut and continues with the
assassination of President James Garfield. Other topics include;
President Arthur in the White House; Garfield Funeral Train
