The arms incorporate a castle topped with a crown and this tool is used on all 4 corners of both covers, and 5 times on the ornately gilt tooled spine. Red morocco spine label. Vellum is somewhat soiled, but a beautiful copy in its original binding. Some light text browning, as always found.    $3,000.00 (trade discount allowed)
There are numerous editions of Cluver's (d. 1622) world geography, but none like the 1729 quarto, revised, and with added text by A. A. Bruzen de la Martiniere, J. Bruno, J. F. Heckel and J. Reiske. This edition has the largest and best maps, including a great map of America (10" x 14") with California as a large island. See McLaughlin & Mayo's MAPPING OF CALIFORNIA AS AN ISLAND #25. Sabin 13085.
