GEORGE III, King of Great Britain and Ireland (1738-1820). Two clipped signatures ("George R[ex]"), one executed while the king was seemingly in full possession of his senses, and the other a "mad" signature, dated in an early hand: "2nd Feby. 1809." The first is matted, glazed and framed, with a portrait: signature measuring 3 1/2" x 2 1/2"; frame measuring 9 3/4" x 13 1/2". The "mad" signature is matted, with a portrait: signature measuring 5 3/4" x 2 1/2"; matte measuring 11 1/4" x 17 1/2". A striking and touching visual depiction of the king's mental decline.
