Alexander Pope: The Odyssey of Homer. London: Printed for J. Whiston Baker, and Leigh, W. Strahan, T. Payne, J. and F. Rivington [et al], 1771. Four volumes (complete), tall 12mo (17.5 cm), in full period calf; ESTC T67138.

A relatively early edition of Pope's majestic and, to many, unsurpassed translation of The Odyssey. This edition also includes "Homer's Battle of the Frogs and Mice. By Mr. Archdeacon Parnel. Corrected by Mr. Pope," with a separate half-title page. Bindings with rubbing and wear, joints cracked with one board detached and several others loose but holding, two spine labels lost, one volume rudely bumped at the spine foot causing some cracking to the leather, creasing to the text block; early owner's signature clipped from the title-pages and front flyleaves, later owner's signature on front free-endpapers; light toning to the leaves, otherwise the contents quite clean and sound.
