[Anonymous:] An Advocate for British Sailors; the Victorious Acquirers of British Glory. London: Printed for W. Owen, at Homer’s-Head, near Temple-Bar, MDCCXLIX [1749]. First edition; 8vo pamphlet (21.5 cm), stitch-bound as issued; [4] + 28 pp.; woodcut initials and decorations; with the half-title. ESTC N66903.

A very uncommon pamphlet on prize money and prize law, addressed to British seamen, "the darling Instruments of obtaining Glory to your Country." A number of these "brave hearts" were growing restive and shirty over the government's delays in paying them the prize money to which they were entitled. ESTC locates only four copies worldwide: three in the U.S. (NYPL, Stanford, Society of Cincinnati) and one in the UK (BL).

Half-title with creases and light soiling, small early owner's signature; bumping/curling to the top corner of the first four leaves, else very clean and bright, securely held by the original stitched binding.
