Histoire ou Éloge Historique de Jean Bart, Chef d'Escadre. [no place, no date, but Paris: 1782?]. Small 8vo (16 cm), in early partial plain wraps; 80 pp. Front wrap worn and stained, rear wrap and backstrip missing; edges of first few leaves with some wear and soiling, occasional small spots and touches of soiling elsewhere.

A life of the French privateer Jean Bart (1650-1702). Bart's greatest feats were accomplished in the Nine Years' War (1688-97), during which he escaped from an English prison, raided and burned Scottish villages, captured a grain convoy, and earned the epithet, "Terror of the Dutch." The work is probably extracted from Turpin's La France illustre ou le Plutarque français (1782), but is complete in itself.
