books each with a different binding structure and text uniquely created
by one of the 8 students in the Spring 2016 Art 135: Typography and the
Book Arts Class at Scripps College; text clean, unmarked. The ninth
volume contains an introduction and is SIGNED by Kitty Maryatt and
SIGNED by all eight students in the class. All nine volumes are housed
in a bamboo-wood tea caddy, 4 x 5 x 9 inches. Fine.

LIMITED EDITION of 105 copies, this is number 84. This is the sixtieth
and last book edition supervised by Professor Kitty Maryatt in a
collaborative series she began in 1986. Amongst the Shelves examines the
book as icon. The class studied significant developments in 550 years of
printing history using primary sources at Denison Library, including a
Gutenberg leaf, and books printed by Aldus Manutius, Nicolas Jenson,
John Baskerville, Giambattista Bodoni, Frederic Goudy and Sumner Stone.
The result is a small library, housed in a bamboo tea caddy, showcasing
the continuing importance of the book. The books were printed on either
Somerset Satin or Rives Heavyweight, and covered either with book cloth
from Hiromi of were bound in leather or paper.
