Three volumes, 8vo (19.5 cm), in early half calf and marbled boards, gilt-lettered contrasting morocco spine labels. No half-titles called for, bound without the adverts at the end of vil. III. Sadleir 3135.

Hugely successful roman à clef centered on the fashionable and exclusive assembly rooms in St. James’s. Rubbing to the boards, modest wear to the edges and extremities; footnote on p. 65 has been clipped and excised, not affecting the text; 3 leaves protruding slightly from the text block resulting in wear to the fore-edges; contents otherwise quite clean and sound, firmly bound. Front paste-downs with bookplates depicting the Order of the Garter, engraved by E. Ortner, 3 St. James's St. These bookplates were executed for the Duke of Northumberland, according to Fincham's Artists and Engravers of British and American Book Plates (p. 72).
