(ARCHITECTURE) Langley, Batty and Thomas Langley. THE BUILDER'S JEWEL; or, the Youth's Instructor... The First American Edition. Charlestown, (MA): Printed by S. Etheridge for Samuel Hill, Boston. (1800). 16mo. 46pp. of preliminary text, plus copper engraved frontispiece and 98 numbered (1-98) plates (note: see below), i.e., 99 plates. Later 19th century half calf and marbled boards. Light to moderate foxing to text and plates.    $1,000.00 (trade discount allowed)
Numerous records state, "99 plates," such as AAS and Harvard (two institutions with accurate, full descriptions), as well as the first 2 full records on OCLC, but other references state, "100 plates," such as Hitchcock's AMERICAN ARCHITECTURAL BOOKS #701 and Rink's TECHNICAL AMERICANA #2491. It appears as if there are two variants.
