Indagine, Joannes ab. CHIROMANTIA. 1. PHYSIOGNOMIA, ex Aspectu Membrorum Hominis. 2... 3... 4. Astrologia Naturalis. 5. Complexionum Noticia, Juxta Dominum Planetarum. (Strassburg: J. Schottum). 1541. Folio. 130,(2)pp. Title with a large woodcut portrait of the author, attributed to Hans Baldung Grien, and numerous other text woodcuts of palms, heads, astrological figures, and nativities. The final leaf with a full page woodcut coat-of-arms on the recto and a woodcut printer's device on the verso. Contemporary vellum, somewhat soiled, spine hand lettered. Both covers with a central gilt stamp of a spotted leopard within a circle of floral ornaments. Title and text with old soiling, including a dampstain at the fore-edge (more pronounced on pages 35-70). Some fore-edges slightly frayed.  Not the greatest copy, but complete and in its original binding.   $2,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
First printed by Schott in 1522 under the title: INTRODUCTIONES APOTELESMATICAE ELEGANTES IN CHROMATIAM... our 1541 appears to be the last folio edition of 5 printed by Schott.
