ALBUM OF VERNACULAR AND PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHS FROM A BRITISH WOMAN'S
TRIP THROUGH GERMANY, 1935-1937.

Post-bound album of faux-crocodile boards, 11.5" x 9.25", containing 43
pages of photographs and real-photo postcards, mounted on leaves of gray
stock, some in color, some with hand-printed captions. Very Good
condition.

The album begins with “My Holiday in Germany, 1935, July 20th-Aug. 5th”.
Two pages of 14 snapshots of “May & Curt’s flat in Sedan Strasse 45/
Erfurt, Germany” include interior and exterior shots, several showing two
young women. A few more photographs taken in Erfurt are scattered through
the rest of the album, along with views of Oberammergau, including the
hotel, street scenes, the town from a distance, etc., many showing two
women and one man. These are mixed with photographs of Konigssee (a lake in
S. Bavaria in what is now Berchtesgaden National Park), one of which shows
a lodge with a Nazi flag flying out front; Watzmann Mountain (2 women
hiking, views); Badersee (hotel, mountain scenes) and Grainau; and several
photos taken at Richard Wagner’s home and theater. In this section are also
several postcards of Wagnerian sites, and about 20 depicting Nurnberg in
b/w photos. ~~ An unlabeled section of the album contains 9 snapshots that
are interior views of a house or lodge; then comes a cruise section,
featuring 4 color postcards of P & O Line ships and numerous snaps of men
and women on deck (one man wears a beret, one an officer’s uniform); also
two photos taken in front of a barbed-wire fence across from the Rock of
Gibraltar: one of two men in bathing costume, the other of two women. These
are accompanied by 3 postcards of Tangier, while another 6 colored
real-photo postcards picture stages of a bullfight. ~~ The album then
backtracks to “Lido, 1934”: beach scenes of men and women on the sands,
posing with an automobile, in front of a hotel with palm trees, etc. Lido
is followed by “My Holiday with May & Jock, Aug. 1937 Along the Rhine
through the Black Forest.” Photographs here include Bodensee (a lake on the
Rhine), various views and scenes, and three snapshots of Heidelberg,
showing two women at an old stone building. There are 8 color postcards of
Rothenburg, etc. ~~ Finally, we skip in time back to “1935 Outing to
Brighton”: 2 group photos, one of 3 women and a car, the other of 5 women
and 2 men. The final photos include a wedding portrait of a large group, a
7” x 9” photo of two women and a man exiting a church, and a newspaper
headshot of the “Late Queen Astrid” with the notation “Killed at
Lucerne”. $175.00

Postpaid in US. Usual trade terms.
