Arthur Macy was a very prominent mining engineer in California, Colorado and Arizona. He became the Superintendent of the Silver King Mines in Arizona. It was called "one of the great mines of the world." Macy is mentioned in the text (p. 204). See Howes: The Final Edition H134. The 1884 edition has a greatly expanded text, and is the first with the folding map.
