This version of Aesop, modified by the Roman slave Phaedrus in the first century CE, became what was passed down into the medieval tradition. This current version is in Phaedrus' Latin verse with extensive notes in Latin and Greek by Laurentius. The whole is laid out in the manner of an emblem book, with many added mottos in both Latin and Dutch.
