William Cobbett: Letters to the Right Honourable Lord Hawkesbury, and to the Right Honourable Henry Addington, on the Peace with Buonaparté, to which is added, an Appendix, containing a Collection (now greatly enlarged) of all the Conventions, Treaties, Speeches, and other Documents, connected with the Subject. London: Published by Cobbett and Morgan, 1802. The second edition. Tall 8vo (22.5 cm), untrimmed in original publisher's boards, rebacked, with printed spine label; [8], 259, [1], xcvi, [2], 2 pp. Toning to the leaves, darkening to the untrimmed edges, intermittent light damp-stain to the first 50 leaves or so, heavier on the first 8 leaves.

Cobbett's denunciation of the peace treaty signed in 1802 by Great Britain and France, the so-called Peace of Amiens, which, much to the author's relief, proved exceedingly short-lived. "Cobbett's letters to Hawkesbury are formally, as well as ideologically, conservative;… worldly and urbane in tone, intimately aware of the workings of realpolitik, and addressed as one gentleman to another..." (James Grande, William Cobbett, the Press and Rural England: Radicalism and the Fourth Estate, 1792-1835).
