Hawthorne, Nathaniel.  LOVE LETTERS OF NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE, 1839-1841 [and]
1841-1863.  Chicago: Privately Printed, Society of the Dofobs, 1907.  First
Edition.

Two volumes. pp: xi, 248; 285; engraved frontispiece portrait with tissue
guard in Volume I. Bound in vellum-backed pale-blue boards, gilt spine
lettering. Bindings slightly discolored as usual, otherwise clean and
sound, in a worn and smudged slipcase. 9.25" x 6".

Colophon at front: "The DeVinne Press certifies that this copy of The Love
Letters of Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of an edition of sixty-two copies, in
two volumes, printed on toned Holland paper, from type, during the month of
April, Nineteen Hundred and Seven."  [Blanck, BAL 7647]

Provenance: Armorial bookplate of William Henry Rossington in both volumes,
under which is the engraved name of Walter W. Colpitts. Rossington, a
lawyer and member of the Kansas State Legislature, edited the Commonwealth
and Leavenworth Commercial newspapers. He and his law partner, Charles
Blood Smith, co-founded the Topeka Club.  $300.00
