Gid, Raymond. CELEBRATION DE LA LETTRE. Haute-Provence: Editions Robert
Morel, 1962. First Edition. This peon to typography by master printer and
type designer, Raymond Gid, was composed in Giovanni Mardersteig's Dante
type and bound after a design by Odette Ducarre. Text in the original
French. Bound in glazed white boards, black lettering. A ribbon imprinted
"Celebration" is tipped to the rear pastedown. / Accompanied, as issued, by
a 20-page booklet in English, translating the original text and adding
biographical and career data on Raymond Gid. Both volumes fit neatly into
the original slipcase of marbled paper over boards, with a presentation
label to Abe Lerner from Sol M. Cantor and Robert L. Leslie of the
Composing Room, Christmas 1963. 6.25" x 5.75" Fine condition.
Abe Lerner, to whom this example was presented, was a noted book designer
and avid collector of modern fine printing, former Director of Design and
Production for both World Publishing Co. and Macmillan, President Emeritus
of Typophiles, and longtime member of the Grolier Club. $50.00
