MACDONALD, A. B. HANDS UP! STORIES OF THE SIX-GUN FIGHTERS OF THE OLD
WILD WEST. Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill Company, (1927). First Edition.
As told by Fred E. Sutton. Illustrated with 15 photographs including
Billy the Kid, Wild Bill Hickock, Bat Masterson, and others. This copy
INSCRIBED and SIGNED on the half-title page by Macodonald Christmas 1929
in Kansas City to Edward A. Braniff of Tulsa, Oklahoma: "As a token of a
friendship that has lived since we were reporters together, many years
ago, on the Kansas City Star." Adams, SIX GUNS 2171: "Scarce. The author
makes many questionable statements. According to his narrative he
appears to have been personally acquainted with all the outlaws of the
West, but in view of his age at his death in 1927, such acquaintances
would have been impossible." One example of Sutton's imagination would
be his claim that he saved Billy the Kid's life in Dodge City. Sutton
would have been 3-years old at the time. Foxing to pastedowns, front
free endpaper neatly excised. Very Good in a Very Good example of the
scarce dustwrapper with a stain at the bottom half of the spine and
chipping to the head. (#018557) $75.00
