[John Trusler]; William Hogarth (illus.): The Works of Mr. Hogarth, Moralized. London: J. Goodwin, [ca. 1824]. Small folio (30 cm) in early/period calf, rebacked in modern calf with gilt-lettered morocco spine label; xv, [1], 287 pp.; engraved title-page and frontispiece, engraved vignettes.

Handsomely printed edition of Trusler's commentary on Hogarth's works, with analyses of Harlot's Progress, Rake's Progress, Marriage a-la-Mode, Industry and Idleness, Beer Street and Gin Lane, etc., etc. Illustrated with dozens of fine engraved vignettes, each text page framed in a multi-ruled border. Rubbing and bumping to the corners of the original calf boards; offsetting and spotting to the engraved frontispiece and title, occasional toning to the contents, a few scattered small spots and stains; else very clean and sound, firmly bound. Loosely laid in by a previous owner is some unrelated but interesting ephemera: the printed program for the 2001 "service of thanksgiving for the life and work" of typographer and inventor Robert George Norton.
