Bound in modern black leather-backed marbled boards; complete with 
half-title page and original endpapers. With original designs engraved 
by N. Orr including a fine illustration of a New York City firefighter. 
 From the Introduction: "The growing taste for works of this kind--works 
intended to promote temperance and virtue, to lift up the lowly, to 
expose to open day the hidden effects produced by Rum, to give 
narratives of misery suffered by the poor in this city...." Well, you 
get the idea. Uncommon, especially complete in decent condition. Foxing, 
mostly moderate and even, throughout. Complete and Very Good in an
