(COOKBOOKS) Bradshaw, Penelope. BRADSHAW'S VALUABLE FAMILY JEWEL. And a Store-House of Such Curious Matters As All Ought to Be Acquainted with: Being a Collection of Near Three Hundred of the Most Approv'd Receipts in Cookery, Pastry, Confectionary... Cordials, Made Wines, Brewing, Etc... The Fourth Edition, with Very Large Additions; Not in Any of the Former Impressions... (London): Printed for P. Bradshaw. 1749. 12mo. 96pp. This copy is lacking 2 printed leaves, pp. 91-92, and pp. 93-94. Laid in are photocopies of these missing 2 leaves. Orig. sheep, extremities rubbed, spine worn, but the hinges are sound. Some light text foxing.    $500.00 (trade discount allowed)

This "Fourth Edition" is recorded with 1 copy (at Harvard) in First Search. It is not recorded by ESTC. There were numerous editions around this date, all rare. Curiously, there is a "12th ed." of only 40 pages, and a "6th ed." of 60 pages, and an "11th ed." of 44 pages, all printed in 1749!  The 1748 printing called the "10th ed." of 44 pages, is in fact the first edition -- no earlier printing is found. Apparently the printer was having fun with promoting the popularity of this cookbook.
