The Book Elves have always loved holiday decorating. From misadventures
with squadrons of tinsel-draped drones wrapping Christmas lights around
high tensions lines, to the live reindeer herd that did away with the
neighbors topiary hedge, their sad adventures have been fully chronicled
here. Neither court orders, Animal Control officers, nor the best
efforts of the Neighborhood Safety Committee can stop them. All any of
us can do is keep a fretful eye on the calendar- and strap ourselves
down.
But in their own odd way the Book Elves also have a strong sense of
responsibility, so before they read in the latest issue of The Kringle
Chronicle that “internally-lit psychedelic Yard Santas” are the latest
popular seasonal decoration, and bought eighteen anatomically correct
blow-up Santa dolls and six pounds of psychedelic mushrooms, the Book
Elves finished our latest catalog-
