1910s-20s Western Wildlife Photo Album by Noted Astronomer William
Wright.

The typewritten title page explains- “All the photographs in this Album,
were taken in the native haunts of the game. None were taken in parks of
other preserves. Many of them were taken with the Telephoto lens, at a
distance of, from two to six hundred yards. [signed] W.H. Wright”.
Wright’s subjects include big horn sheep, antelope, mule deer, and elk,
mostly in wintertime. William Hammond Wright [1871-1959] was an
astronomer and director of the Lick Observatory on Mount Hamilton in
Santa Clara County, California, from 1935 to 1942. He was famous for his
work “on radial velocity of stars in our galaxy, and his work with his
own version of the spectrograph that he designed himself”. He was also
noted for his work on astronomical photography. That he spent his spare
time using a telephoto lens to photograph terrestrial wildlife is not
all that surprising.

Album. 8”x5.5”, typewritten title-page, plus 17 pasted-in black & white
photos, each about 3”x4.5”, on 50 pages. Covers worn and soiled, pages
clean and good. [44244] $350
