A Fine copy of the first edition, first printing (some wear to the spine
ends), in an excellent example of the *EXCEEDINGLY SCARCE to RARE dust
jacke*t (surprisingly little wear, top of spine panel clipped to reveal the
book's title - a common warehouse practice), illustrations by E. W. Kemble
(who also illustrated "Uncle Tom's Cabin", "Adventures Huckleberry Finn",
"Puddin Head Wilson", and more).   The dust jacket is plain as it is from
the period when jackets were used not to sell the book --- and thus not
illustrated and frequently without showing the title or author -- but only
to keep the book clean until put out for sale.  Virtually all of them would
have been discarded. Thus, the presence of the dust jacket makes this copy
illustrative of book history.   A Fine copy in an EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF THE
RARE DUST JACKET.  $1,850
