“Addresses of the Dead” by Charles C. Marble. Published in New York by
G.W. Dillingham in 1887.

The author writes- "This little compilation is intended to answer a want
which, it is believed, though often felt, has never been supplied. It
was begun with no purpose than to gratify the compiler's curiosity, and
to fill up some hours of enforced leisure. The question had often
occurred to him, in reading a biography or reflecting upon biographical
subjects, "Where is he, or where they, buried?" Let anyone ask himself
this question with reference to the illustrious dead of the past year,
and he will be surprised at his ignorance. And yet such information is
no only agreeable and useful, but is sometimes indispensable." In other
words, a late Victorian precursor to find-a-grave dot com, to locate the
gravesites of noted dead Americans. Uncommon.

Hardcover. 5"x6", 116 pages. Blue & black decorated covers. Some minor
scuffing, endpaper hinge cracking, binding shaken. [379/38110] $75
