[Desmarets de Saint Sorlin, Jean]. ARIANA. In Two Parts. As It Was Translated Out of the French and Presented to My Lord Chamberlaine. The Second Edition. London: John Dawson for Thomas Walkley. 1641. Folio. (6),328pp. With the very fine copper engraved added title depicting Ariana and Melintus, the two main characters of this prose romance. Title with device of an anchor and dolphin. Orig. calf, worn, spine cracked in places, and spine extremities a bit chipped. The cords are holding the boards soundly. Quite scarce.    $650.00 (trade discount allowed)
First printed in Paris in 1632 as ARIANE in 8vo. format. The English publishers dressed it up as a folio, first in 1636, then in 1641; these are the only 2 17th century English editions. Wing D1194.
