A Tribute to Professor Morris Raphael Cohen Teacher & Philosopher

SIGNED by Felix Frankfurter at top of free-front endpaper. Frankfurter (who had been Cohen’s roommate at Harvard) was toastmaster at this event and this was his copy.

New York. Hardcover, 109 pages. Published by "The Youth Who Sat At His Feet', 1928. Blue cloth with gold-stamped signature of Cohen on front cover, gold lettering on spine. The frontispiece illustration is a reproduction of a painting of Cohen by Joseph Margulies. Includes letters and greetings by Albert Einstein, Jusice Oliver Wendell Holmes, and others.

"On October 15, 1927, more than a thousand people gathered at the Hotel Astor to do honor to Professor Morris Raphael Cohen, who had completed a quarter century of teaching in Mathematics and in Philosophy at the College of the city of New York. Students, colleagues and friends came and created a unique festival. It was suggested by Dr. Felix Adler that an attempt be made to capture in the written word the spirit of the evening and that a transcript of the addresses be printed, so that this tribute to a teacher - and memorable because it was to a teacher - be more lasting in the memory, and that those who were not present may catch some breath of the loveliness of the occasion. With that thought in view, this little volume was printed.”
