One of the great scholarly editions of this important text, the chief legal reference of the Roman Empire. It is also a major landmark of 17th century printing. Goldsmid in his bibliography of the Elzevir Press, referring to the collaboration of Elzevir, Blaeu and Hackius, states, “It is perhaps the finest work issued by the Amsterdam presses.” See Willems #1299. Goldsmid #1140.  I think it also may be the largest book published by the Elzevir Press?  Also note:  This very copy sold at auction at Sotheby's in 1990 for 1000 British pounds, plus hammer.  In 1990 the pound fluctuated between $1.60 and $1.90. That was 28 years ago. Don't let anyone tell you that old books always go up in value!
