HIRSCHFELD, Al. SHOW BUSINESS IS NO BUSINESS. New York: Simon &
Schuster, (1951). First Edition. Illustrated by the author. This copy
INSCRIBED and SIGNED in the year of publication by the artist on the
page with the publisher's logo: "To Olga San Juan/from an ardent
admirer/HIRSCHFELD 11-27-51." In addition Hirschfeld has drawn an
ORIGINAL SELF-PORTRAIT incorporating the Simon & Schuster spotlight
transforming it into a bass that he is strumming. While signed books by
Hirschfeld are still readily obtainable, those with original drawings,
especially one such as this that superbly captures the artist's wit and
imagination, have become quite scarce. Light shelfwear. Very Good in a
Fair dustwrapper with a large chip on the front and various tears.

Olga San Juan, the "Puerto Rican Pepperpot," was an American actress,
dancer, and comedian of Puerto Rican descent, active in films during the
1940s. She had roles in films alongside Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire.
She starred in the Broadway production of PAINT YOUR WAGON. Married to
actor Edmond O'Brien in 1948, she retired a few years later to raise
their children. (#018633)     $1,000.00
