Scott, Winfield. CUARTEL GENERAL DEL EJERCITO VERACRUZ, ABRIL 11 DE 1847... AL PUEBLO SENSATO DE MEXICO. PROCLAMA... Veracruz: No pub. April 11, 1847. Broadside (12-1/2" x 8"). Lightly soiled. Housed in a brown cloth folder, with ties and with a morocco label on the front cover, "Proclamation to the Inhabitants of Mexico."                      $1,250.00 (trade discount allowed)
A proclamation by General Scott to the "peaceful" citizens of Mexico shortly after the siege, occupation and American victory at Vera Cruz. It assures them that the U. S. is not their enemy, but will punish those who do not remain peaceful. He also offers cash to "all good Mexicans" who bring supplies and food to sell to the army. He believes the war will be over soon and things will return to normal once again. Streeter I, #272.
